Monday, Monday...I love that day!

Happy Monday, all. Yes, I know, Monday isn't always the most favored day of the week, but it is usually my most motivated day....fresh week, fresh ideas, and today a lovely surprise! Thanks to Sassa's Etsy Treasury for featuring my art quilt "You're Making Me Dizzy" on her Etsy Treasures blog! The blog features some great Etsy finds, so scroll down through the treasures if you get the chance. Also be sure to visit HER etsy shop, sassalynne....BEAUTIFUL hand-dyed fibers, fabrics, mixed media supplies and other goodies!

So another Monday, fun day, the ONE day...bad rhyming aside, today another Halloween painting is in the works, the final touches on the Third Day quilt, and a new technique to try.

Thanks for visiting...have a fun day Monday!

Meet Gourdie MacPunkin

Please meet Gourdie MacPunkin, a charming little fellow, dressed up in his candy corn bow tie, ready for a night of Halloween fun! Just listed this little guy in my Etsy shop...an original ACEO, mixed media piece. Thanks for strolling on over there if you get the chance. Other new listings include the two art quilts.

The weekend is finally here and just contemplating a spending few lovely hours with my dh is almost as wonderful as the actual weekend will be. The West TN state fair is in town, so we might grab the grandkids and go take in the sights (and the food!)

The renovations on my "art space" continue....s-l-o-w-l-y. The draw (if you will pardon the unintended pun) of actually working on some art is much greater than finishing up the organizing of supplies.

Have a great one, and thanks for visiting today!

Strangers in the Night

Happy Wednesday to you! It's been a productive one here, finishing up the details and listing a new painting on ebay...a little Halloween goodie entitled "Strangers in the Night" that was so much fun to make! (that song that always brings back fond memories of driving my sister to the hospital the night she was in labor with my dear nephew Jamie...that song was on the radio, and we laughed at the excitement of this newest little stranger in our lives...but I digress)

"Strangers in the Night" is a mixed-media collaged piece, featuring original ink and colored pencil drawings, on canvas board, with an antiqued crackled finish....a nice folk-arty, primitive look. Little Lucinda Witch and her new-found ghostie friends are more figments of my over-active, coffee-fueled (strange) imagination. Thanks for taking a look at the auction if you get the chance!

Today also the two art quilts SHOULD be listed on Etsy, barring no further interruptions. It's such a beautiful day outside...good for taking photos of artwork, but also a huge distraction. Maybe a bike ride is in order later!

Thanks for visiting my blog...leave a comment if you are so inclined...feedback is most welcome!

September? September!

How can it be September already? This year is flying by, cranking up instead of winding down. With all of the younger kids back in school, the time has come, the Walrus said, to think of many things...namely finishing all of those half-finished projects lying in wait on my newly organized work table.

Four finished projects this week already...three for a swap with the Good Halloween Queens of AHQU, a juried Halloween group on ebay. Please put AHQU in your search there, and I promise, you will find some amazing Halloween treats! Swap pictures will be posted here, as soon as my dear swappee receives her gifts.

The fourth finished item is the art quilt posted previously as a work in progress: Doxology (Praise God from whom all blessings flow...) This little piece was so much fun to make, from dyeing the fabric, stitching it, choosing and adding beads. I've decided that color rules most of the art quilts I make, with subject or theme usually coming as it progresses. Doxology, and another art quilt, You're Making Me Dizzy, will be up for sale on Etsy this week. Thanks for taking a look if you get the chance.

One more work in progress...

The second art quilt in progress is called "On the third day..."

The third day refers to both the Resurrection and the day that the waters were gathered together and separated from the land. This piece of hand-dyed cloth spoke of ocean's beauty and unseen wonders, with quilting echoing waves. The metallic thread embroidery and beading represent the hidden treasures found when we least expect them. Please click on any of the photos to get a closer view.

I hope your day is filled with many unexpected treasures!

The craziness continues here as we try to get everyone settled into the new school year. Many half-finished projects are waiting on my crowded work table, including three art quilts. These are made from free-motion quilted hand-dyed fabric, with beading and embroidery. Here are a few photos of the work in progress...this quilt's working title is "Doxology" (Praise God from whom all blessings flow)

The top photo is a close-up of some of the detail in the beading. It was difficult trying to capture a photo that reflects the sparkling threads and beads. These small art quilts incorporate all of my favorite things...the dyeing of the cloth, watching in delight as new patterns and colors shift and appear, the quilting and embroidery with beautiful threads, and the beadwork, the final embellishment. Praise God from whom all blessings flow...

New Halloween ACEOs

As usual, life gets in the way of the blog, so the ACEO sneak peek didn't happen as planned on Friday...but here are three of the new ones, two from a new Halloween series of Punkinheads in costume, and one dancing skeleton, on his way to the Bones Bash 2008. These will be listed in my shop on Etsy today. Thanks for taking a look!

Back to school

It's back to high school for Erin this week...it seems to get earlier and earlier each year. Rick and James are off to college soon, moving into their apartments in the middle of this month, getting ready for their sophomore and freshman years. It's hard to believe they are in high school and college. Ms. Nora will also be going to school, Pre-K at the Montessori grade school...much excitement, new backpacks, clothes and NEW CRAYONS. Always a good thing.

In the midst of trying to get everyone settled into the new year, only able to eke out a little artwork. This week, ACEO's (artist trading cards) for Halloween, including a new series. Will post a sneak preview here a little later today. When I haven't done art cards for a while, coming back to them reminds me how much fun they are...just enough to satisfy the creative need in a busy day.

Have a happy weekend, and stay tuned for the pictures, later today!
